Pizza Pot Pie! An easy perfect dinner that will impress
For the filling:
1 lb Italian sausage, crumbled
1 large onion, chopped
2 bell peppers (red and green), chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup mini pepperoni slices
1 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
1 cup sliced black olives (optional)
For the crust:
1 refrigerated pizza dough (or homemade if preferred)
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
Instructions:
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare the Filling:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the crumbled Italian sausage until browned. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the chopped onions and bell peppers. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir in oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Stir in the cooked sausage, mini pepperoni, and crumbled bacon. Remove from heat.
Assemble the Pot Pies:
Divide the filling mixture evenly among individual oven-safe bowls or ramekins.
Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of each filling.
Prepare the Crust:
Roll out the refrigerated pizza dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut out circles slightly larger than the diameter of your bowls/ramekins.
Place a dough circle over each filled bowl, pressing the edges to seal. Make a few small slits on top for steam to escape.
Brush the dough tops with beaten egg. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and dried Italian seasoning.
Bake:
Place the bowls on a baking sheet to catch any drips. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
Serve:
Let the pizza pot pies cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy the gooey, cheesy, and savory goodness!
